„Flocanique“ – Fashion meets technique
Exhibiton: Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong
When clothing becomes fashion, it is no longer just about the functional use but rather the aesthetics combined with function. Especially in the context of fashion shows and exhibitions a new, exciting and visually strong design language can be developed as a combination of fashion and modern technologies.
The dress with the name „Flocanique“ is dedicated to create a new expression of individuality through an interactive combination of fashion and technology.
The project „Flocanique“ was created as part of an interdisciplinary association of computer science, fashion design and Intermedia Design at the University of Trier. We were a group of ten students who designed and realized the project over a period of one year.
Since for today flip-flops are hardly used any more and moreover the technology had to be transformed and reduced, it required different experiments and trials of the technical and material conditions, also in combination.
In total, we processed with 1024 flipdots that were attached to the two-tone, two-ply neoprene dress. The neoprene fabric has proven to be very suitable due to its elasticity and simultaneous durability. The wiring, the boards and batteries are mounted between the under- and overdress. Their positioning had a decisive influence on the determination of the cut, which was subject to a futuristic, dynamic claim.
The result is a lively-looking, binary dress that can be steered, among other things, as a monitor.
