CONCEPT AND INTERFACE DESIGN OF A MOBILE APPLICATION
WHAT IS JOLLY PLANTS?
As part of the „Global Service Design Jam 2018“ every participant was put together in a group with 2-3 people. Every group was asked to develop a service and present it on the last day of the workshop. I myself had two team members, one from Denmark, one from Hungary.
After brainstorming and thinking about various possible services we could develop and test we decicded to create a service with the working title „Talking Plants“. The service is supposed to help people taking better care of their plants. Since nature is continiously eliminated from the cities the service invites users to contribute at least a little to the environment, and the air we breath, by having plants at home and taking good care of them.
IDEA AND FIRST ITERATION LOOP
The first Idea was to connect the shopping of a plant with mobile payment and reaching the user through his mobile number. After the user leaves the store or has purchased a plant online he receives a message from the new plant saying „Hi, I am your new plant. Would you like to find out more about me? Then activate the chatbot and I tell you more.“ A testing with 10 people showed that people find it rather creepy receiving a message from a plant. Also the question of how the service makes use of the phone number got great attention. Within a second iteration loop we decided to equip new plants, people buy, with a QR code on their pots which then can be scanned leading to a homepage. There the user can find out basic information about the freshly bought plant and how to take care of it the best. An integrated chatbot invites to ask questions about the plant care.
SECOND EVALUATION AND INTERFACE DESIGN
After finishing the workshop I told a few friends about the service we conceptually developed and received additional insights and feedback on the idea which triggered me to rethink it, further develop it and design an app interface for it. Please see my work attached.
